Description: Are you an experienced Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) professional looking to make a significant impact in a dynamic retail environment? We are seeking a dedicated SHEQ Manager to join our team and ensure our operations meet the highest safety, health, and quality standards. This role is critical in developing and implementing plans that drive SHEQ resilience and support business continuity across all Dis-Chem sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • SHEQ Planning and Implementation:
    • Provide input into the development of plans to achieve a SHEQ Resilience Status for the group.
    • Assist in designing a detailed Business Continuity Management (BCM) plan to address emergency business disruptions.
    • Support the implementation of strategies for Safety, Health, Environment, Quality (SHEQ), Security, and wellness.
  • Compliance and Risk Management:
    • Execute health and safety plans, conduct equipment and machinery inspections, and investigate workplace incidents according to legal guidelines.
    • Ensure compliance with safety legislation, policies, and procedures.
    • Conduct risk assessments and implement preventive measures.
    • Identify high-risk exposure areas and recommend mitigation steps.
    • Perform safety inspections and adhere to established operating procedures.
  • Training and Development:
    • Train and coach site managers and employees on SHEQ roles and responsibilities.
    • Support the development of training programs and ensure SHE representatives are available in different business areas.
    • Ensure annual refresher training is conducted to maintain accreditations.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Reporting:
    • Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
    • Collaborate with managers to develop safety procedures for their areas.
    • Liaise with Security Management on compliance and risk matters.
    • Report on Occupational Health & Safety activities and track actions following SHE audit findings.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Assist in implementing a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
    • Stay updated with current and pending legislation and business policies.
    • Ensure effective SHE data management and reporting processes.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Essential:
    • Grade 12 – Matric or Senior Certificate.
    • Diploma/Degree in Safety Management, SAMTRAC, or a similar qualification.
    • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in safety within a retail environment.
    • Computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, MS Project).
  • Advantageous:
    • Experience in incident investigation.

Competencies:

  • Knowledge of SHEQ-related legislation and management systems.
  • Strong command of the English language.
  • Problem-solving, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Strong leadership and relationship-building abilities.

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Ability to support the business after normal working hours.
  • Physically fit and able to travel to different regions as required.
  • South African citizen.
  • Clear MIE, criminal record, and credit rating.
  • Driver’s license and own reliable transport.
