Job Purpose: The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the production process to achieve targets efficiently and cost-effectively. This includes optimizing production processes, ensuring product quality, managing the factory operations, leading the staff, and maintaining health and safety standards.
Key Accountabilities:
- Production:
- Manage the production process to achieve targets efficiently and cost-effectively.
- Optimize production processes, reduce waste, and minimize downtime.
- Set goals, objectives, and standards of measurement for the factory.
- Ensure on-time delivery of products (OTIF) and maintain communication with planning teams.
- Quality Control:
- Ensure that products manufactured meet required quality standards.
- Monitor and maintain quality control measures throughout the production process.
- Address and resolve any quality issues promptly.
- Plant Management:
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the factory.
- Manage inventory, schedule maintenance and repairs, and ensure all equipment is functioning optimally.
- Staff Management:
- Lead and manage the team of factory employees.
- Ensure staff is trained, motivated, and working efficiently.
- Provide regular feedback and coaching to ensure effective team performance.
- Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork and high performance.
- Health and Safety:
- Implement and maintain safety protocols and procedures.
- Conduct safety audits and ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations.
- General:
- Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including senior management, customers, suppliers, other departments, Bargaining Councils, and Trade Unions.
- Report on factory progress, achievements, challenges, and opportunities.
Qualifications & Experience Requirements:
- Education:
- Grade 12.
- Relevant Diploma/Degree in Engineering or Production/Operations Management is advantageous.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 5 years in a management role.
Functional Requirements:
- Sound understanding of the production process and application of continuous improvement processes.
- Strong focus on delivering results and problem-solving.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
- Excellent people management and leadership skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position requiring a minimum of 40 hours per week.
- Works in a fast-paced environment requiring considerable multitasking.
- Shift work may be necessary due to operational requirements.
- Must have own transport and a valid driver’s license.
