To produce high-quality technical outputs that meet client requirements, codes, and standards by adhering to internal engineering processes. This senior technical role requires strong leadership qualities.

Key Performance Areas

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • LV and MV Systems Engineering: Conceptual and detailed design and development of electrical systems and networks.
  • Electrical Systems Design: Specification and execution of electrical systems for industrial plants, including:
    • LV & MV Motor Control Centres
    • LV & MV industrial plant reticulation systems
    • DC plant and battery systems
    • Renewable energy systems
    • Protection systems
  • Switchgear Specification: Specification of electrical switchgear and motor protection equipment.
  • Cable Networks Design: Design of cable networks and distribution systems, lighting, small power designs, and earthing/lightning protection systems.
  • Compliance Assurance: Ensure design compliance with the South African Grid Code.
  • Interdisciplinary Management: Manage electrical interfaces with other disciplines and participate in procurement and installation contracts, including tender evaluations.
  • Project Support: Assist during the fabrication phase of all projects, compile tender scope of work, perform project cost estimations (including Bill of Quantities), and assist with testing and commissioning of electrical systems.
  • Mentorship: Provide mentorship to junior personnel.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Educational Background: BSc (Eng) or B.Eng degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Registration: Registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years relevant multi-disciplinary project design experience, particularly in the Power Generation Industry.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Working knowledge of the OHS Act, Environmental Legislation, SANS & IEC codes, Safety Management Standards, ISO 9001, and the South African Grid Code.

Competencies

  • Communication Skills: Strong communication and technical report writing skills.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with ETAP or DigSilent is beneficial.
  • Teamwork Under Pressure: Ability to operate effectively under pressure in a team environment; must be a fast, accurate worker who is results-driven.
  • Independent Work Capability: Ability to work independently while demonstrating problem-solving abilities.
  • Planning and Organization: Strong planning, organizing, administration, and time management skills.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Good people skills, assertiveness, proactive disposition, and a willingness to work flexible hours, including travel to project sites.
