Data Scientist

Data Scientist position available. seeking a visionary AI Strategy Lead to drive our AI strategy and leverage data science as a strategic differentiator. In this role, you will design and implement predictive models and intelligent algorithms to enhance our understanding of business performance and improve management decision-making.

Purpose Statement

• AI Strategy Delivery:
  • Deliver the AI strategy to ensure Capitec remains competitive in a dynamic landscape where data science is a critical strategic asset.
• Predictive Modeling:
  • Design and implement predictive models or intelligent algorithms to gain insights into business drivers and support enhanced decision-making.

Education

• Minimum: Master’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Statistics.
• Ideal or Preferred: Honours Degree.

Knowledge and Experience

• Knowledge:
  • Minimum:
    • Deep understanding of state-of-the-art principles and techniques in data science, such as Natural Language Processing (NLP) or Deep Learning, with the ability to teach others.
    • Solid grasp of machine learning model theory and application, including the ability to educate others on underlying principles and theory.
    • Best practices for data science, including reusability, reproducibility, and continuous monitoring.
  • Ideal:
    • Familiarity with modern deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or MXNet.
    • Understanding of ethical AI design principles.
    • Knowledge of the Capitec Data Science Lifecycle and Data Product Life Cycle.
• Experience:
  • Minimum:
    • Proven experience in data science and machine learning, including the deployment of developed solutions.
    • Experience in business analysis and requirements gathering.
    • Proficiency in reproducible coding and working with both relational and non-relational databases.
    • Experience with at least one machine learning language.
    • Familiarity with cloud environments.
  • Ideal:
    • Experience in working with multiple teams to deliver predictive models into a production environment.
