Driver CV Example for South Africa

A driver CV should explain what you have driven and the work you performed. Vehicle type, delivery responsibilities, route familiarity and record keeping help an employer assess relevant experience more clearly than a generic claim of being a good driver.

What to include

State your actual driving licence category in the licence section. Check the vacancy for any additional documents or endorsements it asks for, and provide accurate information about the credentials you hold. Do not publish an identity number, full licence scan or banking information in the CV builder.

Profile example to adapt

Driver with experience in [actual vehicle type or work setting]. Responsible for [real transport or delivery tasks] and familiar with [relevant area or process]. Seeking a driving role in [location].

Replace the bracketed text with true details. Remove any sentence that does not describe your experience.

Skills to consider

Choose the skills you can demonstrate. This list is a prompt, not a claim that you hold every skill.

  • Delivery record keeping
  • Route planning
  • Customer handovers
  • Reporting vehicle concerns
  • Loading checks, if part of your duties

Examples of duties or activities

Use only examples that match something you have actually done. Add the setting and dates in the relevant section.

  • Delivered [type of goods] on assigned routes and completed the required delivery records.
  • Checked [documents or goods] before departure and raised discrepancies with the team.
  • Reported vehicle concerns according to the employer’s process and kept trip records up to date.

Check before applying

  • Distinguish personal driving from commercial driving employment.
  • State the vehicle types you actually drove; do not infer experience from a licence category alone.
  • Include delivery volumes or distances only when you have reliable records.
  • Check that your CV and application form give consistent licence and employment dates.

Questions and answers

What should I include in a driver CV?

State your actual licence category, vehicle experience, delivery or transport duties and record-keeping tasks. Check the vacancy for additional credentials and supporting documents.

Can I list personal driving as professional experience?

Describe it as personal driving. A licence category or experience driving your own vehicle does not by itself establish commercial driving employment.
