Principal Associate

Job Overview: The successful candidate will join the Mine Water Team as an Associate or Principal Associate, primarily focusing on mining hydrogeology. The role will involve coordinating key projects, managing critical mining clients, and offering expertise in strategic mine water management.

Key Responsibilities:

• Project Management: Oversee and coordinate major projects both nationally and internationally, ensuring effective client management and project delivery.
• Client Support: Provide direct support to mining clients, particularly in Africa, including frequent travel.
• Field Investigations: Conduct groundwater field investigations (quality, quantity, distribution), supervise drilling, hydraulic testing, and sampling programs.
• Data Analysis: Analyze and interpret groundwater data, prepare reports, impact assessments, and offer recommendations for groundwater protection and impact mitigation.
• Mine Water Management: Provide expertise in mine dewatering, resource exploration and development, groundwater monitoring, and ensuring regulatory compliance.
• Mentorship: Provide mentorship and capacity building within the team, while managing projects effectively.
• Quality Assurance: Oversee quality assurance on hydrogeological data and laboratory results.

• Identify and manage SHEQ risks, contributing towards the company’s goal of Zero Harm.

Qualifications:

• BSc (Honours) in Hydrogeology (with Geology or Chemistry undergraduate major). A Master’s degree is preferred.
• Minimum 10 years’ consulting experience in Hydrogeology.
• Pr Sci Nat registration.
• At least 10 years of experience in the mining and hydrogeology sector.
• Valid driver’s license with at least 2 years of driving experience.

• Proven experience working in the mining industry.
• Organizational skills with the ability to work independently or in collaboration with other professionals.
• Extensive knowledge of mining hydrogeology, groundwater flow, contaminant transport, and geologic processes.
• Competency in geophysics, geotechnical/geological logging, in-situ testing, hydraulic testing, data analysis, aquifer characterization, mine dewatering, resource exploration, and Conceptual Site Models.
• Expertise in regulatory compliance, groundwater monitoring, and environmental impact assessments.
• Slope depressurization and dewatering experience is an advantage.
