Specific Responsibilities:
- Technical:
- Analyze samples using appropriate application programs.
- Prepare samples for specific tests.
- Assist with maintenance, verification, and calibration of laboratory instruments.
- Calibrate and perform minor maintenance on laboratory equipment.
- Administrative:
- Track and collect samples.
- Deliver samples to the laboratory for analysis.
- Ensure timely turnaround of analyses.
- Assist with filing productivity documents and equipment records.
- Dispose of samples.
- Record repairs, maintenance, calibration, and verification of instruments.
- Ensure correct consumables and chemicals are used.
- Supervisory:
- Provide guidance and support to Lab Operators.
- Train new staff on methods and procedures.
- Ensure adherence to quality standards and safety guidelines.
- Assign tasks and monitor performance.
Specific Authorities:
- Cease the use of equipment deemed hazardous or enter hazardous environments without necessary knowledge and protection.
- Cease work that may affect the quality of services.
- Initiate improvement requests for deviations, improvements, or nonconformities.
- Analyze samples accurately and record data.
- Verify instruments and assist with maintenance.
- Diagnose and rectify equipment or analytical problems.
- Report results within specified timeframes.
- Report equipment malfunctions to the Head of Department.
- Calculate and record test results in standard format.
- Transfer data to LIMS.
- Verify test results against control samples and charts.
- Re-analyze samples when control results are out of control limits.
- Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Attend meetings and training sessions.
- Perform operational risk assessments and pre-start inspections.
- Prevent injuries, manage injuries, and facilitate early return to work.
- Represent the site for ISO 17025.
Qualifications:
- Matric (Grade 12)
- Previous laboratory work experience
- Valid driver’s license
- Residence in the Kuruman area
- Fixed-term contract
Required Skills:
- On-the-job and formal training
- At least two years of sample preparation experience in a laboratory environment
- Computer literacy in LIMS, Word, and Excel (preferred)
- Knowledge of Laboratory Quality Management System (preferred)
- Attention to detail
- Accuracy
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Other Requirements:
- Residence in the Kuruman area
- Willingness to work overtime and shifts
- Flexibility
- Passing a medical examination and induction training course
