Legal Secretary

Work-Force

The organisation is recruiting a Legal Secretary for its Durban operation. The role forms part of a wider legal and security jobs portfolio across KwaZulu-Natal.

The Role

This Legal Secretary role has been briefed against a clear set of outcomes for Durban. The successful candidate will work alongside an established team and will be expected to contribute meaningfully to the legal and security jobs pipeline across KwaZulu-Natal.

On top of that, the successful applicant is given the room to plan, deliver and review their work without unnecessary noise. The organisation has built its Durban team on trust, and the Legal Secretary role will feel that from week one.

Tools, systems and information are there to support the role rather than slow it down. The company continues to invest in the technology that backs its Durban teams, and the new Legal Secretary will feel that from the first week.

Internal documentation, process notes and shared playbooks make it easier for the Legal Secretary to step into the legal and security jobs workflow quickly. Institutional knowledge is well-organised, so people are not reinventing the wheel from one week to the next.

Notably, the role has been written to be sustainable, not just busy. Strong output is expected, and managers in Durban also pay attention to recovery, learning and the kind of breathing room that keeps people doing good work over time.

Your Team

Equally, the team you will be working with is fast-paced and energetic. Things move quickly across the Durban office, and the people who thrive here are the ones who plan ahead, communicate openly and pick up the slack when KwaZulu-Natal operations get busy.

Collaboration is the default working mode. Whether picking up a quick query or working through a complex project, you will find colleagues willing to lean in and help.

Line management is hands-on without being heavy. Expect regular one-to-ones, honest feedback and the support needed to do good work consistently.

On top of that, the team mix in Durban reflects a balance of experienced operators and emerging talent, with deliberate space for diverse voices and backgrounds.

What Your Day Looks Like

Your day is built on focus and detail. You work through matter files or post lists, review evidence or contracts and check that every required record is in place. Communication with site teams, attorneys, clients or SAPS is constant, and you keep your reports factual, precise and timely. When something out of the ordinary happens, you respond calmly and follow procedure, knowing that good documentation today protects the business tomorrow.

Importantly, the rhythm rewards people who plan ahead but also pivot quickly when KwaZulu-Natal operations throw up the unexpected.

Notably, the Durban office buzzes through peak hours and settles into focused, productive lulls in between, giving you time to plan and reset before the next stretch of work.

No two days look exactly the same — and that variety is part of what keeps the role engaging for the right candidate in Durban.

Based in Durban

Working in Durban means a place along the lush KZN North Coast, with a steady flow of activity and a strong local economy. The team has built solid relationships across the KwaZulu-Natal region, and the Durban office benefits from those long-standing connections.

Accessibility is taken seriously: where the role allows, the team works toward a balance of in-office presence and flexibility for candidates based in and around Durban.

Many candidates already living within reach of Durban cite the location as one of the role’s quiet wins, with shorter commutes and a real sense of being plugged into the local KwaZulu-Natal economy.

If you are relocating, the team can share practical pointers on neighbourhoods, transport and the typical pace of life in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

Career Growth

Practically speaking, this role can grow with you. Strong performers in the legal and security jobs team in Durban have moved into senior, supervisory and specialist positions, and that journey is supported through coaching, training and exposure to bigger projects.

Growth conversations happen at a regular cadence — not just at year-end — so the path forward stays current and realistic for every Durban team member.

Notably, internal mobility is encouraged. People who start in Durban have moved into roles in other branches, specialist functions and project teams across KwaZulu-Natal.

Training is a mix of formal courses, structured on-the-job learning and exposure to broader projects, all geared at building practical skills.

Why Join Us

You will join a team that values respectful collaboration, honest feedback and shared wins. The Durban colleagues take pride in supporting one another and in doing the legal and security jobs side of the business properly, day in and day out.

Benefits are clear and consistent. Beyond the package on offer, the role includes the supports you would expect from an established South African employer in KwaZulu-Natal.

Recognition matters here. Strong performers are noticed quickly, and many promotions across the business have started in the Durban teams.

Crucially, the company reinvests in its people: paid training, internal moves and the chance to take on bigger projects are all part of how careers in Durban keep progressing.

Equal Opportunity

Diverse teams build stronger workplaces. Applications are welcome from candidates of every background, language and community across KwaZulu-Natal, and recruitment is fair, transparent and aligned with the EE Act.

Practical steps back the words. Structured EE reporting, transformation initiatives and learnership programmes give real opportunities to candidates from across KwaZulu-Natal.

Inclusive hiring extends through onboarding and into how teams operate every day. Respectful, fair conduct is expected from every team member in Durban.

B-BBEE compliance is more than a scorecard here. It informs how the business invests in skills development, supplier diversity and community engagement across the country.

Where You’ll Work

Equally, the environment is process-driven and regulation-aware. Whether you are at a desk or on site, attention to detail, calm conduct and accurate reporting are non-negotiable.

Crucially, the working environment is set up to give the team the focus needed for deeper work, while keeping collaboration and quick problem-solving close at hand.

A respectful, professional environment is the standard in KwaZulu-Natal. Bullying, harassment and unfair conduct have no place here, and managers are trained to act decisively when concerns are raised.
