Legal Counsel

Legal Counsel position available. Role Overview: Envusa Energy is seeking a Legal Specialist to provide essential legal support and guidance to our leadership team and oversee the legal function within the company. This role is crucial for managing legal affairs, including drafting contracts, ensuring regulatory compliance, and protecting intellectual property.

Core Responsibilities:

• General Counsel: Act as the general counsel for Envusa Energy, supporting the development of the new company by identifying key legal risks and opportunities.
• Contract Management: Draft and review strategic contracts and partnerships to align with Envusa Energy’s strategy.
• Intellectual Property: Work to protect the company’s intellectual property assets.
• Advisory Role: Serve as a trusted advisor to the management team, providing legal advice on various matters.
• Compliance & Governance: Ensure adherence to governance, risk, and compliance frameworks and government regulations. Collaborate to develop processes, procedures, and strategies for managing legal risk.
• Corporate Support: Provide legal advice and secretarial services to Corporate Leaders and the Envusa Board to ensure legal compliance.
• Employment Issues: Partner with leaders and HR to resolve employment-related issues.
• External Legal Services: Manage the provision of legal services by external lawyers and law firms in a cost-effective manner.
• Cost Management: Identify opportunities for improved cost management and address or escalate these as appropriate.

Qualifications:

• Education: Graduate in Law or related discipline.
• Postgraduate Qualification: Relevant postgraduate qualification, ideally an MBA or equivalent.
• Experience:
  • Experience dealing with complex and inter-dependent legal agreements.
  • Experience in startup-specific areas such as intellectual property, corporate law, labor law, and securities law.
  • Familiarity with legal requirements in South Africa; knowledge of UK and France law is desirable.
• Knowledge: Understanding of governance and corporate legal requirements such as the Companies Act.
