Description

Purpose of the role

We apply a value stream model and are looking for an experienced manager to head a highly skilled and technical team within our Data & Analytics

department.

The successful candidate will manage the Data Engineering work stream to provide subject matter resources to various value streams within the

bank. The individual will also be tasked to align practices, procedures, standards and tools across multiple teams and value streams in order to

apply governance and standardise ways of working.

 

Requirements

• Grade 12

• 3-year tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline, e.g. statistics, computer science, mathematics or engineering

• Alternatively, a computer sciences related technical certification with 5+ years’ proven people management experience

• An additional honours degree in a relevant discipline, e.g. statistic, computer science, mathematics or engineering will be advantageous

• Working knowledge of PCI and RDARR

• 5 – 7 years’ proven technical experience in:

–– Project and task planning and execution at a large scale within a complex and dynamic environment

–– Resource capacity planning using a shared pool of resources within a similar environment, ideally gained in a banking environment

• Proven track record of delivering on complex data engineering projects

• Proven track record of business relationship management, especially at a senior/executive level

• Practical experience in applying agile way of work methodologies will be advantageous

• Valid driver’s licence and own transport is essential, the individual may be required to travel

• Clear credit and criminal record

 

Key competencies

• In-depth knowledge of the Systems Development Life Cycle

• Solid understanding of end-to-end Data Engineering environments, including data governance and management, data warehouse, business

intelligence and data science

• Knowledge of IT within the banking industry

• Advanced influencing, interpersonal and communication skills are required to contract with, engage and influence senior leaders and technical

specialists, as well as coordinate complex initiatives across a number of teams

• Transformational leadership ability is essential to influence business owners who do not share the same technical understanding of data

engineering within the Data & Analytics department

• Proven ability to establish and manage relationships with various individuals at differing levels of the business. These include, but are not limited

to senior leaders, technical specialists and support staff

• To lead the direction of the Data Engineering resources within a specific work stream requires a strong, strategic future thinker

• Developed people management skills are critical to service a number of cross-functional needs, including people with strong academic

backgrounds and technical skills

• Given the need to plan and coordinate the deliverables of the Data Engineering teams and create structure from complexity within the work

stream, the individual must have advanced organisational skills in order to follow a process-driven approach

• Facilitation skills are required for meetings and workshops to establish a clear plan for the delivery of Data Engineering activities within a work

community and value stream

• High accuracy, attention to detail and advanced business and report writing skills are required to produce accurate, quality documentation

• Focused on process, service and delivery

• Given how complex and dynamic the data and analytics environment is, the ability to deal with complex change in a high-pressured environment

is critical

• Ability to manage conflicting priorities and opinions through effective conflict resolution skills and capabilities

• Ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously

• Advanced computer literacy skills (MS Project, MS Office)
