Our client has an Auxiliary Lead/ Assistant 500 Series vacancy available in Durban. The Auxiliary Lead is responsible for the development of marine and mechanical systems of various shipbuilding projects. This is a 12 month contract.


Duties (will include but not limited to):

  • Working on new builds and existing ships that need improvements
  • To develop all ship related systems according to client's specifications and class rules
  • Take ownership of your specialization and deliver design and calculations for highly complex and innovation-driven systems, which ensure the ships can operate according to the clients' requirements
  • Participate in defining propulsion and auxiliary systems and related marine systems requirements
  • Lead the efforts of the Propulsion and Machinery Systems Team in providing technical support to the company
  • Assist in the review and approval of technical documents such as drawings, calculations, procedures, specifications, scopes of work and other products relating to the Propulsion and Machinery Systems Team areas of responsibility
  • Assists with facilitating and overseeing subcontractor development of design deliverables and technical purchase specifications relating to propulsion and auxiliary systems
  • Assist with ECP management associated with propulsion, auxiliary systems and related marine systems
  • Participate in the development of HSV Propulsion System design processes and procedures
  • Participate in Integrated Product Teams in support of development of the HSV design
  • Participate in negotiations with client, equipment and material vendors
  • Support the review of propulsion and auxiliary systems content in technical design reviews
  • Assist in developing and implementing test plans and procedures and requirements verification tracking
  • Support the final project close out of all documentation updates and development of user manuals relating to propulsion and auxiliary systems
  • Address risk items relating to the propulsion and machinery Systems, including identification and risk mitigation planning
  • Propose design and process improvements related to vessel predictability, shipyard safety, and production performance
  • Interface with shipyard production and planning teams to ensure the propulsion and auxiliary system design products adequately reflect facility limitations, capabilities, and build methodology
  • Develop and fostering client and subcontractor(s) relationships
  • Assist in planning and implementation of FOI, STW, HATS and SAT

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 qualification
  • BSC/MSc in Marine or Mechanical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering experience MS Office, with excellent verbal and written communication
  • Ability to multitask and handle matters under pressure
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Must be organized and exhibit strong attention to detail
